About Me

Originally from the hills of Eastern Kentucky, I am a journalist currently working at The Oldham Era in La Grange, KY.

I started my journalism career at Western Kentucky University’s student newspaper, the College Heights Herald. I joined the staff of the Herald during my first semester, fall 2014, as a features reporter. I went on to hold the positions of assistant news editor, features editor, opinion editor and editor-in-chief for the 2017-2018 academic year.

Broadening my journalism skills, I interned at the Lexington Herald-Leader in the summer of 2016 and the Louisville Courier-Journal during summer of 2017.

I’m a graduate of WKU, and the WKU Mahurin Honors College. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies and a minor in Citizenship & Social Justice. For the Honors College, I complete a thesis which examined the roles of journalists in human rights movements that passed with distinction. While at WKU, I was also a member of Lambda Pi Eta and Omicron Delta Kappa.

My areas of academic interest include communication studies, human rights, journalism, and forms of identity and citizenship.

When I’m not entirely consumed with reporting, editing, or researching, I try to make time to relax by reading non-academic journals and attempting to immerse myself in nature every now and again.
